Board Members to Discuss Walkout with Case students

Students to Discuss Walkout and School Safety with Board Members
Posted on 03/02/2018
Case elementary students have invited APS board members to the school to discuss school safety and the March 14th Walkout. The 5th grade class will be facilitating the discussion that stems from the recent events in Florida and the board's own debate on those topics.
Along with requesting the conversation with the board, the students have been working on plans for the 14th that would be inclusive of all students, but also appropriate for the different grade levels. Once they have decided on a plan the students will speak with the principal, Mrs. Henderson, to see if it is feasible.
The 5th graders initial brainstorming session included possibilities ranging from a balloon release, to displaying each victims name, one per minute, for the 17 minutes. They also felt that the younger students could focus their efforts on school safety and bullying. Regardless of the idea, they all agreed that teachers and parents should be involved in the decision as well.
