Dear APS Parents,
Akron Public Schools is having a wonderful summer reading program that we would like to invite your child to be a part of that will help strengthen reading skills and prevent any summer learning loss. This reading program encourages your child to read independently throughout the summer, and there will be great incentives from the school that he/she could earn based on the number of books read.
On the Akron Public School’s website, you will find a suggested list of books that your child could check out at a public library near you or read online through the portal using OverDrive. Your child could also select books that are not on the suggested list. All our K-5 students have been trained by their school librarian and should know how to access the books on OverDrive. When a child completes a book, he/she will complete a simple Google form that is posted on the APS website to share what they have read. By completing the Google form for every book read, your child will have the total number of books recorded so he/she may redeem prizes upon returning to school in the fall.
Thank you in advance for collaborating with us to help your child improve his/her reading. Having your child read an hour a day during the summer has the potential to improve his/her performance in reading. With your support, we know this program will be a success. If you have any questions pertaining to the reading program, please contact me or your child’s building principal.
